Critical questions for trade customers during specification and ordering
What's your typical lead time for lighting products?
+Most lighting products are available for immediate dispatch from our warehouse network. Stock availability is shown on each product page in real-time. Orders with in-stock items are typically processed the next business day.
For large commercial orders or bulk quantities, contact our team to confirm stock levels and delivery schedules. With 23 locations nationwide, we can coordinate staged deliveries to align with your construction timeline if required.
Do you offer trade pricing or project pricing for larger orders?
+Yes, Lincoln Sentry provides competitive trade pricing for cabinet makers, builders, and contractors. Register for a trade account to access trade pricing online. For substantial commercial projects or bulk orders, contact our sales team for project-specific quotations and potential volume discounts.
Can I order custom lengths for LED strips and aluminium profiles?
+Aluminium profiles are supplied in standard 2m, 2.4m and 3m lengths, and can be cut on-site to your required dimensions. LED strips are available in standard reel lengths (typically 5m reels, with some 24V options in 20m reels) with cut marks every 50-100mm for field cutting.
For commercial projects requiring factory-customised lengths or special configurations, speak with our technical team about custom order options.
What information do I need to provide for a lighting project quote?
+For accurate project quotes, provide:
• Total linear metres or quantities required
• Specific product codes or types (strip lights, downlights, profiles)
• Project application (kitchen cabinetry, bathroom, commercial fit-out)
• Colour temperature preferences
• Dimming requirements
• Transformer/driver needs
Site plans or cabinet drawings help us recommend optimal solutions. Our team can assist with product selection if specifications are still being finalised.
Do you stock all the components I need for a complete installation?
+Yes, Lincoln Sentry stocks complete lighting systems including LED strips, linear luminaires, downlights, aluminium profiles with diffusers, transformers/drivers, controllers, switches, connectors, and mounting accessories. This allows you to source all components from one supplier, simplifying procurement and ensuring compatibility across the entire lighting system.
Technical Specifications & Compatibility
Essential technical information for professional installations
Are your LED products compatible with standard dimmer switches?
+Most of our LED products are dimmable, but require LED-compatible dimmers and dimmable transformers/drivers. Standard incandescent/halogen dimmers will cause issues. Check product specifications for dimming capability, and match with our LED-rated controllers or dimmers.
For residential projects requiring app control or smart home integration, we stock Wi-Fi controllers compatible with iOS and Android devices. For commercial projects with sophisticated lighting control systems, consult our technical team to ensure compatibility with 0-10V or DALI dimming protocols.
What's the maximum run length for LED strip lights before voltage drop becomes an issue?
+To avoid voltage drops, select the correct power supply capacity. Calculate the total wattage by multiplying the strip's length by the wattage per metre, and try to use the power supply at 80% of its capacity to give a buffer. Next, select a power supply with the matching output voltage (12V or 24V).
For 12V systems: maximum 5 metres per single connection is recommended.
For 24V systems: maximum 10 metres per single connection is recommended.
Beyond these lengths, voltage drop causes visible brightness reduction at the far end. For longer runs, use multiple transformers with parallel connections, or install amplifiers at connection points.
Which IP rating do I need for different applications?
+IP20: Standard for dry interior cabinetry, wardrobes, entertainment units, and display joinery. We have a wide range of IP20 LED strips and Downlights.
IP44: Bathrooms (outside shower zones), laundries, covered outdoor cabinetry, and splash-prone areas. Our Hera FR 68 downlights carry IP44 rating suitable for bathroom installations.
IP65: Wet areas including shower zones, outdoor installations, pool surrounds. Our Modar LED Strip 2835 IP65 series provides waterproof protection for these applications.
Australian Standards require appropriate IP ratings for wet areas - specify correctly to meet compliance and warranty requirements. See also our range of LED strips with higher ratings like IP66 & IP67 for greater protection.
What's the difference between CRI and why does it matter for joinery?
+CRI (Colour Rendering Index) measures how accurately colours appear under artificial light compared to natural daylight. Standard LEDs offer CRI 80, adequate for general lighting. High-CRI products (CRI 90+) reveal true colours and textures, critical for display joinery, retail fit-outs, wardrobes showcasing clothing, and kitchen cabinetry where colour accuracy matters.
Lincoln Sentry stocks high-CRI options including our Hera range (CRI 90-100) and Modar LED strips (CRI 80-90). Specify high-CRI for projects where material appearance and colour accuracy are important.
Can your LED products be used with smart home systems?
+Yes, selected products are compatible with smart home integration. Our Hera Wi-Fi controllers work with iOS and Android smartphones via the free Hera app, allowing control, scheduling, and scene programming without requiring an existing Wi-Fi network (can operate standalone). Multiple controllers can be integrated into existing Wi-Fi systems for whole-home control.
For commercial buildings with centralised building management systems (BMS), certain products support DALI or 0-10V protocols - consult our technical team for integration requirements and product recommendations.
Installation & Jobsite Considerations
Practical guidance for successful installations
What clearances and cutout dimensions do I need for recessed downlights?
+Cutout dimensions and minimum clearances are specified on individual product pages and technical datasheets. For example, our Hera FR68 downlight requires a 68mm cutout with 12mm minimum recess depth. Typical installations require 100-150mm ceiling cavity depth and specified clearances from insulation for heat dissipation.
For cabinet installations, ensure adequate ventilation space. Always refer to product-specific installation guides before cabinet construction or ceiling cuts to avoid costly modifications.
Can LED strip lights be installed in aluminium profiles after powder coating?
+Yes, but install profiles before powder coating to avoid heat damage to adhesive and LEDs during the coating process. If profiles must be finished on-site, ensure LED strips are installed after powder coating is complete and fully cured. For large commercial joinery runs, we recommend ordering profiles in your required finish where possible.
Do I need to provide ventilation for LED lighting in enclosed cabinetry?
+LEDs generate less heat than traditional lighting but still require heat dissipation for optimal lifespan. Aluminium profiles act as heat sinks for strip lights. For enclosed cabinetry, particularly full-height units or small spaces, provide ventilation holes or gaps to prevent heat build-up.
Our LED products are rated for operating temperatures up to 50°C. Excessive heat beyond this reduces LED lifespan and can cause premature failure. Position transformers in ventilated locations - never seal them inside closed cavities.
How do I handle corner transitions with LED strip lights and profiles?
+For 90-degree corners, we stock purpose-designed corner profiles (available in 3m lengths) that maintain continuous light appearance. Alternatively, use corner connectors for LED strips, or create mitred joins with standard profiles.
For curves or irregular shapes, flexible LED strips without profiles provide maximum flexibility. Avoid sharp bends (minimum 50mm radius recommended) to prevent damage to internal circuitry.
What's the best way to run cables and position transformers in joinery?
+Transformers generate heat and require ventilation - don't bury them inside sealed cavities. Position in accessible locations (e.g., behind kickboards, in service voids, above ceiling panels) for maintenance access. Our Hera transformers come with 2m mains cables and Australian plugs, with maximum 5m secondary cable runs to LED connection points.
Run low-voltage cables through cable management channels or behind trim. For kitchen cabinetry, coordinate transformer locations with electricians early to ensure mains power access points align with cabinet positions.
